What we do

Every layer of your IT, engineered and documented

Our services fall into four groups, from day-to-day managed IT to fiber, towers and your website. Most clients start with one and add others as the assessment shows a need.

How it works

Four steps from first call to steady state

Assess

We visit, inventory every device, save the as-found configuration and fix what is safe to fix that day, with your sign-off.

Propose

Within ten business days: written assessment, modernization plan and a firm quotation, prepared and checked by our team to standards set by our licensed engineer. You approve at your pace.

Onboard

Equipment arrives preconfigured. MFA is confirmed working, a restore is tested live and the procedure is handed over in writing.

Support

Monitoring, patching and helpdesk begin. Quarterly reviews and an annual assessment keep the plan ahead of your budget cycle.

Managed Service Program

One program, sized to you

No bronze, silver or gold. The Managed Service Program is one program, and its monthly fee is set by what we actually manage: workstations, servers, network devices, storage devices, users and mailbox-only users, with a block of included hours. Counts are reviewed monthly, so the fee moves with you.

Project work is quoted as a fixed fee or billed time and materials, and nothing is ordered before you approve it in writing. Terms are set out in a written agreement.

Why an engineering firm runs your IT

Our mission is to give small and mid-sized organizations the disciplined, accountable technology engineering that large ones take for granted. Most IT providers sell plans; we apply engineering principles and stand behind the result in writing. Our mission, vision and values.

Engineered, not improvised

Engineer Austin is Texas Registered Engineering Firm F‑15739. Our team prepares and checks every assessment and plan to standards set by a licensed P.E., and the firm stands behind the result.

Assess before you buy

Every engagement starts on site with a written report you keep. Each device is retained, upgraded, reassigned, repurposed, replaced or retired, with the reasoning stated. The hardware list may be zero.

Standards that keep evolving

House standards are revised after every job, and the platforms we build on are re-evaluated every year. What changed, and why, goes into your quarterly review. How we keep evolving.

You own everything

Tenant, domain, Global Administrator credentials, configuration and documentation stay in your name. Your network reports to servers we run ourselves, not a vendor's cloud, and on exit, data and admin access are returned promptly on request.

Documentation is the deliverable

As-found and as-left records, numbered findings, a rollback script for every change, restore procedures tested live with your staff, and diagrams kept current.

Lower running costs, same security

We favor equipment whose licensing lasts the life of the device, and mature open-source software, so you are not renewing a subscription every year for hardware you own. Every platform is still hardened, patched and documented to the same standard, and where a subscription earns its keep, we say so.

Our engineering principles

  • Design to stated criteria. What the system must do (capacity, uptime, growth, budget) is written down before we choose how.
  • Every change has a rollback. The way back is planned before the step forward is taken.
  • Independent review before release. A second qualified person checks the designs and changes that matter, and owns what they approve.
  • Proportionate design. The fix is sized to the risk and the budget, not to a product list.

How we use AI

AI speeds up the work. Our people stand behind it.

We use AI assistants to draft and check configurations and scripts, analyze logs and inventories, and cross-check reports and runbooks. They run through approval-gated tooling (nothing executes until a person approves it) in controlled sessions, with access limited to what the task needs.

The rules do not bend. Every AI-assisted change is reviewed by a person, logged with a timestamp and a rollback, and approved before it runs. Client secrets are never pasted into public AI tools. A named member of our team reviews and signs off on the result.

How we use AI, and what we offer around it →

What it means for you

  • Faster turnaround on assessments, reports and migrations
  • More thorough documentation at the same price
  • Staff spending their time on judgment, not typing
  • The same standards applied every time, because the checklists are executed, not remembered

AI readiness and automation for your own organization: a use policy, Microsoft 365 Copilot evaluation, data readiness and automation with human review, under the same assess-first, written-approval process.

Second practice

Civil and municipal engineering

The same firm provides on-call City Engineer services to Central Texas cities and districts: plan and plat review, capital improvement planning, drainage, water and wastewater, floodplain administration and grant-funded project administration, under the same licensed Professional Engineer and the same document control.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How is managed IT priced?

One Managed Service Program, not tiers. The monthly fee is sized by the workstations, servers, network devices, storage devices, users and mailbox-only users under management, with included hours. Project work is quoted as a fixed fee or billed time and materials, and nothing is ordered before you approve it in writing.

How fast do you respond?

Within two hours during business hours, Monday to Friday, 8 to 5 Central. If remote work cannot fix it, an on-site visit is scheduled within one business day. After-hours callback within four hours and emergency response within one hour are available by arrangement at premium rates.

Who owns our accounts, licenses and documentation?

You do. Your Microsoft 365 tenant, domain names, Global Administrator credentials, configuration and documentation stay in your name from day one. Nothing we deploy locks you to Engineer Austin. If you leave, data and administrative access are returned promptly on request.

Where do you work?

We are based in Georgetown, Williamson County, and work on site within driving distance, roughly 200 miles, from the Hill Country to Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, San Antonio and Corpus Christi. Most managed IT, cloud and security work is delivered remotely, so we serve clients across Texas, the United States and abroad. See our service area. Cabling, fiber and tower work is scheduled on site; ask about your location.

What makes an engineering firm different from an IT company?

A licensed Professional Engineer sets the standards our team works to. Engineer Austin is Texas Registered Engineering Firm F‑15739, so our assessments, designs and documentation are built on engineering principles, held to a professional standard of care and prepared and checked by our team to standards set by our licensed engineer. You get a written record and one accountable firm, not a sales quota.
