Mobile Device Management and Support in Central Texas

Engineer Austin manages the phones, tablets and laptops that carry your organization's mail and files, using Microsoft Intune, for organizations across Central Texas. Company-owned devices are enrolled and configured before they reach their user, personal phones are protected at the app level without taking them over, and only devices that meet your policy reach company data. A lost, replaced or retired device is handled to a plan, with a written record.

What this includes

Every device set up the same way, and kept that way

  • Company devices ready before they arrive. Laptops are registered with Windows Autopilot, iPhones and iPads with Apple Business Manager, and Android devices through Android Enterprise zero-touch enrollment where the device and reseller support it. The device enrolls itself when it is first switched on, and company devices can be configured, encrypted and enrolled at our office and shipped ready to use.
  • Personal phones protected without enrolling them. On a phone someone owns, Intune app protection guards company data inside the managed apps, such as Outlook, Teams and OneDrive, with a PIN on those apps and limits on copying or saving company data into personal apps. Nothing else on the phone is managed.
  • A selective wipe that never touches personal data. When someone leaves or loses a personal phone, company data is removed from the managed apps only. Personal photos, contacts, messages and apps are left alone.
  • One policy set for every company device. Passcode or PIN, device encryption, automatic screen lock, deadlines for installing operating system updates, approved apps, and Wi-Fi, VPN and email profiles delivered automatically, so nobody types in a network password or mail server setting.
  • Only compliant devices reach company data. Conditional Access checks each device at sign-in. A device that is unencrypted, out of date or missing its passcode is told what to fix instead of being let in, and personal phones are limited to the protected apps.
  • Lost or stolen device response. Call us as soon as a device is missing. We lock it, locate it where the platform supports it, wipe it when you decide it is not coming back, sign the user out and reset their access, and write up what was done and when.
  • Day-one devices and same-day offboarding. A new hire's laptop and phone are enrolled and ready on their first day. When someone leaves, their account is disabled and company data is removed from their devices that day, and company-owned equipment is reset for the next person.
  • Apps and licenses deployed for you. Work apps are pushed to the devices that need them and removed when they are no longer needed, with licenses assigned to people rather than tracked on paper and matched to the devices each person actually uses.
  • Inventory and reporting. Who has which device, its serial number, operating system version and compliance status, with devices that have fallen out of the maker's security-update support flagged for replacement.
  • Phone and tablet support for staff. Mail and calendar setup, MFA and the authenticator app, and moving to a new phone, including moving the authenticator so nobody is locked out on the day they upgrade.
  • Shared and single-purpose devices. Front-desk iPads, field tablets, inventory scanners and check-in kiosks locked to the apps they need, with no personal sign-in required.
  • Retirement with a record. Retired devices are wiped and released from management and from your organization's enrollment accounts so they can be reused or sold, and listed on a disposal record you keep, the same as the computers and drives we retire.

Works with iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, Windows laptops and Macs, on Microsoft 365 with Intune. Typical uses: an office handing out its first company phones, a practice that wants staff mail on personal phones without managing those phones, a city or district issuing tablets to council or board members, a field crew sharing rugged tablets, and anyone who has lost a phone with company mail on it.

Your devices and accounts stay yours

The devices, the Microsoft 365 tenant, the Apple Business Manager and Android enrollment accounts, and the licenses you buy belong to your organization and are held in its name, and every setting we apply is documented. Our policy sets and device configurations are our intellectual property, licensed for your use while you are a client. Terms are set out in a written agreement.

Device work as a service

Company devices, personal phones and everything in between

Device management is part of the Managed Service Program, and it can also start as a single project: a first Intune rollout, a move from mail set up by hand on personal phones to protected apps, or a batch of tablets for a board. Projects are quoted as a fixed fee or billed time and materials, whichever works best for you, with a written summary you keep.

Company phones and tablets

iPhones and iPads enrolled through Apple Business Manager as supervised devices, and Android devices set up as fully managed, so the management profile cannot simply be removed and the full policy set applies.

Laptops with Windows Autopilot

Business-class machines on Windows 11 Pro, registered to your organization, encrypted with BitLocker with recovery keys escrowed, and configured as soon as they are signed into.

Personal phones

App protection for staff who use their own phones, or a separate Android work profile where a fuller split is wanted, with company data kept inside the work apps and nothing else on the phone managed.

Board and elected-official devices

Members can use their own phones through the Outlook and OneDrive apps, or receive a tablet or laptop the entity owns, decided member by member. See Microsoft 365 for boards.

Shared and kiosk devices

Front-desk iPads, field tablets and scanners set up as dedicated devices, locked to one app or a short list, and easy to replace when one breaks.

Device review

What you have, who has it, what is out of support and what reaches company data today, with numbered findings and a plan ranked by risk.

How we approach it

Inventory, enroll, enforce, support

Inventory every device

We list every phone, tablet and laptop that reaches company mail or files, who owns it, and whether it still receives security updates. Most organizations find a few they had forgotten.

Enroll and configure

Company devices are registered and enrolled, personal phones get app protection, and access rules run in report-only mode first, so we can see which devices would fall short before anyone is blocked.

Enforce access

Once devices are compliant, Conditional Access is switched on in stages, with a date announced to staff and help on hand for anyone whose device needs an update or a passcode.

Support, replace and retire

Day-to-day help, new hires and departures, lost devices and upgrades are handled under the same policy set, and every retired device is wiped and recorded.

What you receive

Devices you can account for

  • A device inventory: each device, its user, serial number, operating system version and compliance status.
  • The policy set in writing: passcode, encryption, screen lock, update deadlines, apps and profiles, per platform.
  • A one-page guide for staff on what is and is not visible on a personal phone.
  • A lost-device procedure, and a written record for each lost or stolen device.
  • Onboarding and offboarding checklists for devices, used every time.
  • A list of devices nearing or past the end of security-update support, with replacement dates, and a disposal record for every retired device.

How AI speeds this up for you

Device and compliance reports run to hundreds of rows. We sort and summarize them with AI assistance in our approval-gated tooling, flag devices drifting out of compliance or out of support, and draft the findings and lost-device records the same way, so you get a clear answer sooner. A person checks every finding and approves every policy change or wipe before it is made, and no client data or secret is ever pasted into a public AI tool. How we use AI.

Kept current. Apple and Google release a major operating system version every year, and how long a device keeps receiving security updates varies widely: some current Android flagships now promise up to seven years, while many budget models receive far fewer. Microsoft updates Intune every month and from time to time retires older settings and controls. We review these changes and tell you at your review when one affects your devices or the date a device should be replaced.

Why an engineering firm

Tested before it is enforced

A compliance policy switched on all at once can lock half the staff out of their mail on a Monday morning; a policy that is never enforced protects nothing. We treat devices like any other system we design: the current state is measured, policies are tested on a few devices and in report-only mode before they apply to everyone, and every setting is documented. The work is done on engineering principles under a licensed engineering firm. Engineer Austin is Texas Registered Engineering Firm F‑15739; our team does the work to house standards set by our licensed Professional Engineer.

Who this is for

Offices with staff who work from phones and laptops, medical and dental practices, cities, counties, sheriff's offices and special districts, boards and elected officials, field businesses with shared tablets, schools with shared classroom devices, and churches and nonprofits with volunteers on their own phones. Device management is built on our Microsoft 365 work, carries the encryption and compliant-device controls of our cybersecurity baseline onto phones and tablets, and is delivered under the Managed Service Program. It pairs with email security and staff training.

FAQ

Device management, answered plainly

Do staff have to enroll their personal phones?

No. For personal phones we usually recommend app protection instead of enrollment. Staff install the Outlook, Teams and OneDrive apps, sign in with their work account, and company data is protected inside those apps. The rest of the phone is not managed. Company-owned phones and tablets are fully enrolled, because the organization owns them.

What can the company see on my personal phone?

Very little. With app protection, the company sees the phone's model, its operating system version, and the managed work apps and whether they meet policy. It cannot see your personal email, texts, photos, browsing history, location or other apps, and it cannot wipe the whole phone: if you leave or lose the phone, only company data in the work apps is removed. We explain this to staff in plain language before anything is installed.

What happens when a phone or laptop is lost or stolen?

Call us as soon as you notice. We lock the device, try to locate it where the platform allows, sign the user out and reset their access, and wipe it when you decide it is not coming back; a personal phone has only its company data removed. Company devices are encrypted and passcode-locked, so the data is protected in the meantime, and you receive a written record of what was done and when, which helps if a breach-notification question comes up.

Which Microsoft 365 license do we need?

Device management and app protection both come from Microsoft Intune, which is included in Business Premium and can be added to other plans. Conditional Access comes with Business Premium as well. Not everyone needs the same plan: we mix licenses per person and match them to the devices each person uses, as described on our Microsoft 365 page.

Does this make us HIPAA or CJIS compliant?

No product does that on its own. Both frameworks expect protections that device management makes practical: encryption, automatic screen lock, strong authentication and the ability to wipe a lost device. We configure and document those controls so you can show your auditor what is in place. We advise; the compliance decisions remain yours, and we do not issue an attestation or legal opinion.

Can you manage the phones and tablets we already own?

Usually, yes. Devices bought at retail can often be added to your organization's Apple or Android enrollment, though full management normally needs the device to be reset first, so we plan that around each person's schedule. Future purchases are registered to your organization at the time of purchase where the reseller supports it, so they enroll themselves out of the box.
